To the East of the Andes, lies the capital of the Argentine province of Mendoza. Wine, olive oil, and hiking characterize this large Argentine city. There is no lack of culture in Mendoza. If you’re not drinking wine you can go to one of the many festivals held in Mendoza every year. The festival of the vendimia is somewhat like a beauty queen pagent but with wine. The natural history museum is a must see. Independence square is the main square and the rest of the city is built around the square. While there, you might notice the unbelievably green city center even despite the hot, dry temperatures. This is because Mendoza has devised an artificial irrigation system in order to accurately water the grapes and provide the city with greenery. The irrigation ditches border sidewalks and pedestrian bridges provide access throughout the city over the water. Parque San Martin is one area where visitors can see the greenery at work.
